Prescott Drilling Motors
Jaw Clutch Transmission
Prescott incorporates the proven and long lasting jaw clutch transmission to transmit torque from the rotor to the output shaft. The patent pending innovative double pinned design is a first and results in longer component life and higher tensile strength.
Advantages
- The flexible jaw clutch design eliminates side loading caused by rotor eccentricity. Titanium rods used in this application apply huge side loads to the lower stator end and the top of the output shaft. The large side loads cause premature stator rubber chunking and cracks/failures of the output shaft.
- Titanium flex shafts are limited in motor bend angle to 1.5 degrees. The jaw clutch can be used up to 4 degrees.
- The Prescott jaw clutch uses a double pinned catch mechanism and has significantly increased the tensile capability over previous designs:
- Prescott 675 over pull = 62,000 lb
- Previous 675 over pull = 30,000 lb
- The pivot point has been moved away from the center point of the jaw clutch resulting in a minor rocking motion. This greatly decreases wear of all the transmission components.
