Prescott Drilling Motors
Prescott Bearing Packs
Prescott Bearing assemblies are a reliable and proven flow-thru design. The bearing pack is very rugged and will stand up to the harshest drilling conditions. The mandrel/output shaft is manufactured from forged 4330 series material with a higher yield strength and excellent fatigue resistance. The bearing race stack uses the toughest tool steel material specially heat treated to a Prescott proprietary specification which maximizes toughness while increasing wear resistance resulting in a longer life bearing. Upper and lower radial bearing support bushing are case hardened and are very cost effective. All these features result in a longer lasting and very reliable bearing pack.
Advantages
- The bearing races are thru-hardened using a vacuum heat treating process resulting in several advantages:
- Tougher thru-hardened race, higher Charpys impact strength
- Race is the same hardness thru and thru, not case a hardened race which has only a 0.030 - 0.040 case depth and a very soft core hardness (30 Rc).
- Eliminates need to re-machine race after heat treat due to warping
- The Prescott bearing pack uses larger bit balls resulting in better axial load carrying capability. The 6 3/4 motor uses 3/4" bit balls.
- The cased hardened sleeves have a 0.080 in. thick case.
- The carbide cladded sleeve is a weld in spherical carbide based material with a nickle based matrix. The advantage to the weld in method is a cladding thickness that is twice as thick as conforma-clad. This results in a longer lasting more reliable bearing.
- Prescott offers two types of radial bearings, case hardened and carbide cladded.
