How the Jar Works and Operates
The hydraulic/mechanical jar consists of a mechanical latch that keeps the jar in the neutral position and prevents unexpected jarring when tripping in or out of the hole. The jar also consists of a hydraulic section that creates a time delay when the jar is in operation and the latch is disengaged.
The Black Max two-way hydraulic/mechanical jars are versatile and easy to use. To operate the jars simply apply tension or compression to running string. Varying the tension of compression loads during the hydraulic time delay controls the intensity of the jar impact. When a push or pull action is applied to the jar, hydraulic oil is forced around a restricting valve. This restriction of oil flow from one chamber to the other delays the stroke. This delay enables the drill strings to stretch before the jar fires. Latch settings and delays are marked on the tools and delivery papers.
